Windtor Cottage
Windtor Cottage
The holiday Cottage is located high on the west side of the Widecombe valley on Dartmoor. It is just over half a mile from the centre of the village of Widecombe surrounded by beautiful Devon countryside. The holiday Cottage commands astounding views over the moorland and Dartmoor itself. The cottage stands in a small secluded garden with direct access to the moor. It offers every opportunity to walkers, letter boxers, Geo-cachers and bird-watchers with plenty of attractions within easy reach. The south coast beaches are about half an hour away.
Windtor Cottage, Dartmoor, - the accommodation
Recently refitted throughout by Any Job Handyman with modern solid oak flooring, a new bathroom, kitchen and heating system, the holiday cottage sleeps 4 adults and 2 children. The accommodation consists of a sitting room with electric fire, TV with video and DVD player. A door leads through to a south facing sun-room with garden furniture and views over the surrounding countryside. The epic Steven Spielberg movie ‘War Horse’ was filmed just opposite the cottage and here is the article that appeared in the Independent following its launch.
The kitchen in the holiday cottage has been modernised and incorporates an electric cooker and a microwave. There is an adjoining larder with a fridge freezer and washing machine. There is a downstairs lavatory.
There are 3 bedrooms one of which is a small bunk-room and is located downstairs. The upstairs bedrooms are large with views over the surrounding countryside and beautiful cottage garden. One is furnished with a double bed while the other has twin beds.
There is a modern bathroom, shower and lavatory upstairs with commanding views over the moors.

Dogs
We do appreciate that the holiday cottage makes a wonderful base for dog owners and so dog owners are most welcome at Windtor. There is a section in the welcome pack at the cottage detailing standard expectations and we do ask dog owners to respect the moorland codes when exercising dogs. A copy of the booklet is available here: Your dog in the countryside or at this website: Natural England.
Heating and linen
Heating and hot water in the cottage is provided by a modern combination condensing boiler. Linen including towels, sheets, duvet covers, pillow cases and drying up cloths are now provided for all guests. There is a washing machine as well as all the other basics and the cottage provides a traditional yet comfortable break from the pressures of daily life.
Smoking
We operate a no smoking policy in the cottage which we request all of our guests to observe.
Shops and amenities
There is a small shop attached to the Cafe on the Green in Widecombe which carries most essentials including fruit and vegetables, bread and milk. It also serves as an ‘out-reach’ Post Office. There are two pubs, the Old Inn in the village and the Rugglestone on the road out of the village towards Venton. Both serve excellent food and beverages. The National Trust shop and Church House are worth a visit as is the magnificent 14th Century St Pancras Church.
There is a small playground for children and a tennis court on the edge of the village. A key-code is available at the cottage which gives access to the court in the village. Guests have to provide their own equipment.
There is mobile phone reception for O2 and GiffGaff networks and the cottage telephone receives incoming calls.
